Look for the clues to find your true purpose
When my clients say to me, I don’t know what my true purpose is; I smile and say, “what have you always done for as long as you can remember that is so natural that it doesn’t feel significant?” What do other people say about you and what do you do that you don’t necessarily get paid for, yet?
This image of Kelly Osbourne is linked to my time as Head of PR at beauty brand, St. Tropez. I was lucky enough to direct Kelly on a photoshoot in LA because we had signed her up to a self esteem ambassador for British Charity, The Prince’s Trust. It sounds rather glam doesn’t, but what is important here is that I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of self esteem and empowerment. And when I look back to that time, I can see that this fascination was mainly coming from my unconscious mind because back then my focus was elsewhere; mainly on staying at the top of my high powered career. Hindsight is a wonderful gift, it allows us to look back on our life and find meaning, and value, but it’s not always so easy in the present moment to discern our next best steps. Or is it? Could it be that the answers are always available to those who will listen?
I am smiling again because once upon a time, in a job gone by, I created an empowerment plan for my team. I was (and still am) frustrated by the patriarchal leadership style that seems to be embedded in our culture. I also wanted to leave the office on time and work with an empowered, and happy team who were trusted to make their own decisions – goodbye bottleneck management… What is amazing about this story is that, I was setting the early foundations for my current career without realising it. And this was possible because I worked for two amazing CEOs who believed in me and I followed my gut instincts. There was something in both these projects that felt very right, I’d go as far as to say, they had my name on them. And so I want you to know that if you follow your instincts and inner compass, you will always find your way back to your purposeful path.
What I now know from my work with women, is that when you create sacred time in your life to connect to your heart’s calling, you will see a path that is covered in clues and each one, leads to the next step. So in truth there is no need to worry or panic.
It took me a few years and some big life experiences to fully claim my passion and purpose of empowering both myself and others, and perhaps that was because I wasn’t fully ready to commit to the roller coaster ride of entrepreneurship back then. But what matters is that I said yes to the signs and I now work with women and businesses around the world helping them to effectively communicate, collaborate, create purpose and tune into their inner wisdom. And I count my blessings every day.
Are you ready to claim your true purpose and turn it into a career? Start by answering the powerful questions I opened with and take three baby steps every day that will take you from concept to creation… The way to how is always to say yes!
